The VU Students’ Representation (VU SR) is the oldest and largest student organisation in Lithuania. It is a non-profit, non-political, expert educational organisation representing students’ interests within and beyond Vilnius University. The VU SR fosters University culture and promotes student self-expression.
The VU SR has 15 branches – one in each core academic unit (faculty, institute, academy, or centre) – and the Central Office, which is located in the Observatory Courtyard of VU’s central premises.

Join one of the 15 artistic groups at the Vilnius University Culture Centre! Express yourself through orchestra, choir, theatre, ensemble, dance, or even organ playing. These groups bring together over 600 members interested in artistic pursuits, and you’re welcome to become one of them! Learn more about each group here. Participation is free of charge, but make sure you don’t miss the auditions held at the beginning of each academic year.
The Vilnius University Health and Sport Center invites students to make the most of their free time through sports. With membership, you can use the gym facilities, join group sessions, or become part of a VU team (in disciplines such as orienteering, chess, rowing, swimming, weightlifting, football, and other sports), and compete as a representative of the University. Find all available sports clubs and teams here.
At Šiauliai Academy, students are encouraged to reach higher levels of athletic achievement and enjoy active leisure time in game courts, aerobics halls, and gym facilities. Learn more about sports teams and other opportunities here.
Over time, many different societies, clubs, associations, and individual projects have developed within the large VU community. These are great opportunities to enjoy your free time and deepen your expertise or learn new skills. Feel free to join student research societies in a variety of fields or take part in any of the other activities on offer. Ready to join in?
Non-academic units at Vilnius University invite students to contribute their time and talents through volunteering, which is a great way to contribute to the development of the University and build valuable skills. Currently, volunteering opportunities are available in various units – from the VU Museum to the Botanical Garden.
At Šiauliai Academy, students can volunteer not only within the University units – such as the STEAM Centre or the Botanical Garden – but also at partner institutions and organisations, as well as the Regional Development Institute at Šiauliai Academy.
Every August, the VU Students’ Representation (VU SR) organises off-site camps for first-year students from all University units (faculties). Altogether, 15 camps are held annually, where participants meet their peers and programme mentors. Freshers’ camps also provide the opportunity to get to know the University and its culture, meet lecturers, alumni, and staff, as well as learn the basics about the study process and the University environment.
Don’t miss your chance – grab your place while you still can!
Each year on 1 September, a traditional procession of the Vilnius University community, organised by the VU SA, takes place from the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania to the VU Grand Courtyard. The vibrant parade brings together more than 4,000 members of the VU community wearing faculty attributes, carrying impressive handmade placards and other themed decorations, and rowdily chanting both traditional and newly created slogans. Come and be part of this fun celebration at the beginning of the academic year!
The VU SR organises the ‘Ad Astra’ integration festival for the University community and the whole city of Vilnius. The event features various discussions, workshops in different courtyards of VU’s central premises, and a networking fair where participants can meet student organisations, clubs, and learn about the services offered at the University. The festival concludes with a community concert held in the VU Grand Courtyard.
Spring at Vilnius University wouldn’t be the same without Faculty Days – an annual celebration when each academic unit (faculty) hosts its own events. In some units, it’s a one-day celebration, while in others, the Faculty Days can last over a week. If you’d like to do more than just attend, follow your faculty’s social media channels for the latest updates and take part in organising the event. Don’t miss the chance to be part of a celebration that brings the whole University community together!
